Phoenix City Manager Ed Zuercher has named Amber Williamson as Phoenix’s Budget and Research Director.
“Amber brings a wealth of public budgeting knowledge to this role,” said Zuercher. “Her extensive experience with public safety budgets, revenue forecasting and the overall budget development process will serve the city and the community well in her new role.”
Williamson began her career at the city in 2000, as an Administrative Assistant II in the Retirement Department. She has worked in the Budget and Research Department for 15 years, holding several positions, including Budget Analyst and Management Assistant. In 2016 she was named the Deputy Budget and Research Director. As Deputy Director, Williamson oversaw the effective fiscal management of 19 city departments including the Police and Fire Departments.
To compliment her experience and knowledge, Amber served as a member of the City of Phoenix Employees’ Retirement Board Disability Assessment Committee from 2008 to 2015. Amber holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in finance both from Arizona State University.
“I am very excited to be selected as the Budget and Research Director and consider myself very blessed to be given the opportunity to lead an exceptional department and become part of the city’s executive team,” said Williamson. “I look forward to continuing the hard work our office does each year to ensure we develop a responsible and sustainable budget for the residents of Phoenix”
The Budget and Research Department directs the preparation and administration of the city’s annual operating budget and capital improvement program. This ensures effective, efficient allocation of city resources to enable the City Council, City Manager and city departments to provide quality services to Phoenix residents.
