Forty Under 40: Brad Phillips

Brad Phillips believes data tells a story and drives sound business decisions. He’s passionate about providing that resource to his owner group of 11 doctors, helping them make metric-based, data-driven decisions.

Last year Phillips led the practice through an electronic medical record and practice management system conversion, encouraging the group to spend more money in a new system.

“Based on the data, we were going to realize higher revenues on the same amount of work with the new tool,” he said. “We’ve been on the system for a year, and typically, the first-year practices aren’t as profitable. We were quite a bit more profitable.”

Due to Phillips’ skill in positioning the clinic financially and the owner group’s commitment, all 115 clinic staff remained fully employed during the COVID-19 pandemic when patient volume dropped.

Originally from Little Rock, Phillips graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2006 with an accounting and finance double major, then worked for CPA firm S.F. Fizer & Co. in Springdale for about five years.

In 2012, Phillips became CFO at

OrthoArkansas in Little Rock, a job more fitting with his desire to interact with and serve people. After a merger in 2016, Phillips became interim CEO, knowing an outside CEO would be named for the new business.

Offered the CEO job at Ozark Orthopaedics in 2017, Phillips moved his family to Northwest Arkansas, excited about the opportunity.

“I don’t take it for granted that they’ve entrusted me with their direction to manage the organization,” he said.

Naming his dad, a partner in a CPA firm, as the kind of servant leader he emulates, Phillips said helping his team provide a needed service to the community drives him. He is treasurer for the North Hills Medical Park POA.
