Ohio – Gov. Mike DeWine to give an Ohio coronavirus update: Watch live

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After new data shows that testing for coronavirus is reaching new highs, Gov. Mike DeWine will update the public on the state’s response to the outbreak.

For the seven days ending Sunday, 284,751 COVID-19 tests were performed in Ohio. Just over 3.3 million tests have been performed since the beginning of the pandemic in the state. Gov. Mike DeWine said on Friday that he expects more tests to arrive in Ohio this week that look for viral protein antigens, made by Chicago-based Abbott Laboratories.

The tests provide results without having to be sent to a lab, similar to many consumer pregnancy tests, DeWine said.

The state is determining how to deploy the Abbot BinaxNOW tests, which will cost Ohio $5 per test, considered inexpensive, DeWine said.

“We want to fill in whatever gaps we have in nursing homes, because this is the most vulnerable people in Ohio we have,” he said. “But also these could be used to help kids get back in school quicker. It could be used at the college level as well.”

Watch the 2 p.m. briefing live, broadcast by the Ohio Channel, below.

As usual, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted will join DeWine.
