COVID-19 Pandemic Amplifies Existing Challenges For Georgia Farmers, Food Insecure Families

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations estimated 135 million people worldwide were facing “extreme hunger.” Now, in light of the pandemic, the World Food Program believes that number could rise to around 265 million people by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, here locally, many Georgia households are already feeling the effects of this crisis, particularly those who were already food insecure. Additionally, the COVID-19 crisis also presents a challenge for many farmers and growers, who are facing difficulties selling their produce.
