Lexington reported 206 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend and one new death, bringing the city’s total to 5,726 cases and 56 deaths.

Lexington has reported 539 cases over the last five days. On Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week, the city had 100 or more cases on four consecutive days. Before the surge, Lexington went 11 days without a report of 100-plus cases.

Cases from University of Kentucky students have continued to increase. The total has reached 760, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, which only counts students who are considered Fayette county residents. More than 630 of those have come since Aug. 3, which is when UK started testing all of its students returning to campus for the fall semester.
