The number of positive COVID-19 cases in northeast Louisiana climbed to 70 on Sunday as Ouachita, Union and Lincoln Parish each added cases.
Ouachita added seven, reaching 41 total cases. Union climbed to nine total cases, and Lincoln Parish is reporting seven. The Louisiana Department of Health update also included a Caldwell Parish case previously confirmed locally.
Case numbers across the remaining nine NELA parishes remained consistent with West Carroll and Tensas Parish the only two not reporting a confirmed case.
Governor John Bel Edwards previously said residents of any parish without a confirmed case should not believe there isn’t a case there.
“COVID-19 is in every parish in Louisiana,” Northeast Louisiana Ambulance Service spokesperson Shane Scott said. “We don’t need a confirmed case in each individual parish to tell us that. Folks should understand that the only recourse we have right now to stop the community spread is to take every precautionary measure possible.
“COVID-19 is flying fast as hell down every highway, street and dirt road in this state. We all have to consider the threat equally serious and do our part to mitigate the spread. Limiting travel and creating a social distance is the smallest sacrifice people can make right now to save a life. We have lost 151 lives in Louisiana in 15 days. We owe it to another to do better this.”
Only one death of a northeast Louisiana resident has been reported — a 56-year-old Ouachita Parish man who died on March 22.
