Louisiana’s Department of Health reported fewer than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday for the third straight day for the first time in more than two months.

The state reported 778 new cases Wednesday for a total of 139,903 since the infection first appeared in Louisiana in March.

Hospitalizations also fell by 44 Wednesday for a total of 1,160 who are requiring in-patient care, while the number of patients needing ventilators fell by 12 to 175.

Thirty-seven more Louisianans have died for a total of 4,468.
