Four La. businesses face bar permit suspension over COVID-19 violations

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Four Louisiana businesses face bar permit suspensions following non-compliance with Gov. John Bel Edwards’ emergency order aimed to stop the spread of COVID-19.

According to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, the Alcohol Tobacco Control (ATC) has suspended bar permits for safety violations, pending a hearing for:

• Sand Dollar Tiki Bar, 158 Sand Dollar Court, Grand Isle

• Frosty Factory, 4688 Common Street, Lake Charles

• Pelican Pub, 6473 LA 44, Gonzales

• Wo-de’s Chill Spot, 3400 Westbank Expressway, Harvey

Officials say they received multiple complaints regarding a large, non-socially distanced crowd at in outdoor pavilion in Grand Isle over the weekend. They say Sand Dollar Tiki Bar was serving drinks to the crowd and allowing them to remain on-premises despite limitations. The investigation is ongoing.

They say multiple inspections at the Frosty Factory and Pelican Pub found violations of the governor’s order including being open and serving members of the public inside the bar. They say in response to complaints over the weekend regarding a large non-socially distanced crowd outside of Wo-de’s Chill Spot, the bar was found to have been open and serving the public inside.

Hearings are scheduled for August 5 and 6. Consequences could result in a suspension period of up to 30 days, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
