Louisiana reports 627 new cases of COVID-19, including 30 additional deaths

As of July 17, 2020, LDH will no longer update the COVID-19 data on Saturdays.

Louisiana Statewide Case Numbers

On August 28, Louisiana officials reported 627 additional cases of COVID-19 in the state. They also reported an additional 30 deaths.

The active number of cases across the state is estimated at around 13,584. This number was reached by subtracting the number of deaths statewide and the most recent state-reported number of presumed recoveries from the latest reported total number of cases overall. The state releases the number of presumed recovered weekly, so the number of active cases listed above is an approximation and should not be considered exact.

Overall, Louisiana has reported a cumulative total of 146,243 cases of COVID-19.

State data indicates that COVID-19 led to the deaths of 4,741 people in Louisiana.

The latest number of presumed recovered, released on August 24 is 127,918. (Updated weekly)

August 26, 2020, LDH reports 701 probable cases. (Not updated daily)

A probable case or death is defined as:

A person meeting clinical criteria AND epidemiologic evidence with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19;A person meeting presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence;A person meeting vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19.

Gov. John Bel Edwards says each case represents one person, no matter how many tests they’ve taken. He says any assertion to the contrary is wrong and calls it irresponsible to spread such misinformation. While duplicates make their way into the count at times, health officials say they work daily to identify and remove these cases from the total.

*Reported COVID-19 patients in hospitals: 900 (141 of those on ventilators.) Hospitalizations are up (+24) from the previous report. The number of those on ventilators is down (-4) from the previous report.
