MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Authorities have arrested a man accused of abusing a one-year-old boy.
According to the West Monroe Police Department, the victim had multiple signs of abuse on his body including whelps along the child’s chest, stomach, and back.
They say the mother advised the child was last in the custody of 28-year-old Jamarius Elmore.
Police say with the help of Child Protective Services, they were able to make contact with Elmore, who agreed to an interview with WMPD.
They say during the interview, Elmore admitted to striking the victim multiple times with a slipper on his stomach and back. He states this is what caused thee whelps on these areas of the child. According to the arrest records, Elmore also admitted the scars on the child’s buttocks were the result of him striking the child with a belt.
Elmore was booked at the Ouachita Correctional Center on the charge of cruelty to juveniles.
