More than 1,300 new cases; 58 deaths

Louisiana reported 1,387 new COVID-19 cases and 58 more deaths Sunday.

The Louisiana Department of Health’s coronavirus update includes two days of data. Saturday is the only day the agency doesn’t report single-day updates.

Gov. John Bel Edwards will announce this week — probably Wednesday — whether he will advance the state to some form of Phase 3 reopening or whether he will extend his current Phase 2 order in which bars are closed and masks are mandated statewide.

Louisiana has recorded 152,868 cases since the first COVID-19 infection was confirmed here in March, while 4,930 Louisianans have died.

Eighteen fewer COVID-19 patients were hospitalized on Sunday for a total of 790, while 23 more patients needed ventilators for a total of 119.
