Help wanted! Amazon hoping to hire 1,000 employees at new Henderson facility

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — According to DETR, Nevada’s unemployment rate improved slightly in the month of May, but at 25.3%, it’s still among the highest unemployment rates in the nation. But one of the country’s biggest retailers is about to open a new facility in Henderson that could help bring that number down even further.

For millions of Americans, Amazon is the website where you go to to buy pretty much anything, and then two days later it’s dropped off on your doorstep. But soon, the company could bring a big boost to southern Nevada’s economy by hiring a thousand employees to work at its new facility in Henderson.

“This henderson facility will open this month. We are really excited to get new employees onboarded and start serving our customers,” said Lisa Guinn, an Amazon spokesperson.

Amazon wants all of southern Nevada to know help is wanted in Henderson! Amazon is hoping to hire at least a thousand employees to work at its new cross-dock facility, receiving large shipments of inventory before breaking it all down and shipping it out to fulfillment centers in the Amazon network.

“It’s really important because the products are then able to be in fulfillment centers that are close to the communities where our customers are. It increases our shipping speed and gets those products to our customers’ door steps even faster,” said Guinn.

All of these available jobs are full-time and pay at least $15 per hour. Benefits include medical and dental coverage, 401k with Amazon matching 50% of your contributions, and a career choice program in which Amazon will pre-pay up to 95% of your tuition and fees so you can study and train for a different job in an in-demand field.

“Somebody who is may be interested in the healthcare field, they can go to school and Amazon will pre-pay that 95% to get their associates degree or certification. C.D.L. is also a really popular class that people take and they are certified to be truck drivers, for example,” said Guinn.

Several recent COVID-19 outbreaks have led to hundreds of infections among amazon warehouse workers nationwide. And while that is cause for concern, the company is assuring new hires it’s spending more than $800 million to step up sanitation and put new safety protocols in place.

“Anyone that’s walking into our buildings has their temperature checked. They receive a mask if they don’t already have one. And then they are also required to comply with all of our social distancing guidelines. We also have enhanced cleaning. We have stations that we set up throughout the building for handwashing,” said Guinn.

In order to apply for one of these open positions with Amazon, you have to be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
