Are you counting down the days until fall, or do you want to hold onto summer?

Bring on the cooler weather.

I wish it could be summer year-round.

I love all the seasons.

I’m counting down the days until WINTER.

A sewage study conducted by Biobot Analytics + the City of Chattanooga found that there are possibly thousands more COVID-19 cases in the city than reported. The city’s wastewater treatment center has been sending samples to Biobot, and traces of the virus can be found in the wastewater. On July 21, the health department reported 4,461 confirmed cases, and Biobot found 8,200. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

The SEC will require football players + those in direct contact with them to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week during the upcoming season. Coaches, staff, and personnel will be required to wear face coverings while on the sidelines. These rules apply to soccer and volleyball as well. (NewsChannel 9)

To help limit the spread of COVID-19, Publix now requires customers to wear face coverings over their noses and mouths while inside the store. Learn more about the mandate here. 😷

Hey, there. Looking for today’s #MustDo events? In accordance with the
CDC’s recommendations regarding public gatherings, we have decided to postpone public event coverage for the time being. We look forward to bringing you Chattanooga’s #MustDo events soon (until then, feel free to submit your virtual events

Earlier this year, Whole Foods bought the local Earth Fare storealong with many other struggling locations — for $900,000. The original Earth Fare store in Asheville has since been reopened under the original name, but Chattanooga’s store will come back as a Whole Foods. 🥬

We posted the news + a photo on social media last week, and most of the comments are in favor of a Trader Joe’s (which wasn’t even in the original question!)we love how Noogans just won’t give up on a dream. 🙌

IG user @iambradleysmith said it best@traderjoes please notice all the people wanting a Trader Joe’s in Chattanooga, TN even when a post doesn’t even mention you. There is a NEED. You guys will be so profitable! Every time I see anything mentioning a grocer in this city, everyone always bombards the comments asking for a Trader Joe’s. If you were a franchise, I’d open one! Others please tag @traderjoes to make them notice this.”

The Creative Discovery Museum was awarded a $250,000 Museums of America grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to help fund renovation + expansion. The grant funds will directly support the Ignite Discovery campaign that launched in January. The Creative Discovery Museum was one of 109 museums in the country to be awarded the grant. 🙌

The Aug. 6 elections ended with Marquita Bradshaw coming out on top for the Democrats who were vying for the seat that U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander is vacating. Bradshaw is now the first black woman to run as a major political party nominee for the U.S. Senate. She faces Republican Bill Hagerty in the November elections. In local elections, Hamilton County got one new school board member — Marco Perez. Other school board incumbents Tiffanie Robinson, Joe Wingate, and Rhonda Thurman kept their spots.
Although EPB is providing free internet service to Hamilton County students, not everyone will have it before school starts. EPB said it has to install equipment to homes that haven’t previously had EPB access. Some local activists and residents expressed disappointment in this. EPB said they will work as fast as possible. (NewsChannel 9)

Edu

Local education officials discussed plans for starting college classes with Rotary Club members last week. UTC will have 62% of its classes online, and students will have to enter through a specific area of campus and fill out a questionnaire before going to class. Fielder, 95, died last week in Dallas, TX, but Forest Hills Cemetery in St. Elmo has special meaning for the family and for Fielder, so he will be buried there. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

NOOGAdiaries day No. 24: Trista here, and I wish it could be summer all the time. I am such a baby when cold weather starts, and I never want to leave my house. I’d be perfect happy if we went from fall to spring. I can’t believe some people like winter and snow.

I hope no matter how you feel about the summer heat, you find today’s guide helpful. Oh! And keep a lookout for a #TryThis conversation about hiking with Experience Chattanooga. 🙌
