Despite an increase in COVID-19 cases across Texas, the number of cases in the Cy-Fair region appears to be going down according to Harris County Public Health data.

A Houston Chronicle analysis of state data showed the number of COVID-19 cases in Texas increased from 577,132 to 581,999 as of Thursday, and deaths went up by 205 to 11,128.

Around Houston, the Harris County Public Health website showed a total of 96,658 cases, with 1,000 new cases as of Aug. 21.

But active COVID cases are down around Cy-Fair. Harris County Public Health data shows a total of 1,345 active cases as of Aug. 21, with 85 total deaths. That’s a decrease in active cases by about 1,000 since July 31. The numbers were compiled from ZIP codes in the Cypress Creek Mirror’s Cy-Fair distribution area: 77040, 77041, 77065, 77070, 77086, 77095, 77429 and 77433.

Cy-Fair ISD plans to begin their school year Sept. 8, with both virtual and in-person learning options. One district employee at their early learning center did test positive for COVID-19 Aug. 11, and is self-isolating at home, the Houston Chronicle previously reported. A statement from the center said anyone in close contact with the employee was asked to self-quarantine, and the district said all employees are screened prior to campus arrival.

Pridgeon Stadium, 11355 Falcon Road A, is providing testing from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, as well as from 7 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They also have begun offering testing from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Walmart continues to offer testing at three locations in the area: 11425 Barker Cypress Road, 8208 Barker Cypress Road and 12353 FM 1960 W. An appointment is required and can be made at www.doineedacovid19test.com.

CVS Pharmacy is also still testing at 6089 S. Hwy. 6 N., 11600 FM 1960 W. and 19715 Tomball Parkway. Anyone wanting to be tested must schedule an appointment at www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/covid-19-testing.
