Galveston County has reported an additional 195 coronavirus cases since Aug. 11, bringing the total case count to 9,800 as of Aug. 13.

More than 4,300 of the cases—about 45%—are currently active, according to health department data. No new deaths have been reported since Aug. 2.

Coronavirus recoveries in the county are being reported at rapidly increasing rates: The 334 reported Aug. 11 was a new single-day high, and that record was broken Aug. 12 when 423 recoveries were reported. The Aug. 13 recovery count of 494 is now the highest single-day number of COVID-19 recoveries.

There were 8,825 total cases in Galveston County at the start of August, marking an 11% increase over the course of the month. COVID-19 positivity rates have fluctuated between 8% and 9% throughout the month, per county health department data.

Galveston, League City and Texas City all have more than 1,600 confirmed cases as of Aug. 13. In Friendswood, 579 cases have been confirmed, 11 of which occurred at Friendship Haven Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Outbreaks at five other nursing homes in League City and Texas City have infected a collective 257 people, per health department data. An additional case was reported Aug. 13 at the two Texas City nursing homes. The nursing home outbreaks account for about 6.5% of the cases in League City and in Texas City and for about 2% of the total cases in Friendswood.

The county also began displaying antibody test results on the database in mid-June. More than 4,100 people have received the testing thus far, with all but 295 of those people testing negative.
