A new coronavirus testing site is available in Kingwood, and it will serve as one of Houston’s two federally funded surge sites.
The Houston Health Department has partnered with the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services and the State of Texas to offer the free COVID-19 testing at “mega” sites this week that can support a high-volume. The Kingwood Community Center site, located at 4102 Rustic Woods Drive, can offer 1,250 daily tests. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Aug. 10 -15. Appointments are required and can be made at www.doineedacovid19test.com or on-site.

The Lake Houston area has now reached a total of 4,054 confirmed cases and 62 deaths from COVID-19 according to data from Harris County Public Health as of Aug. 10. The Observer has defined the Lake Houston as these eight zip codes: 77532, 77044, 77396, 77336, 77346, 77338, 77339 and 77345.
As of 6 p.m., Texas reached 508,284 cases and 8,926 deaths. Statewide, there were 7,304 patients hospitalized for lab-confirmed COVID-19, the 10th straight day with a decline. The seven day average for new cases has also declined for five straight days, according to the Houston Chronicle data team.
In addition to this surge site, there are other locations around Houston and in the Lake Houston area continuing to test daily. According to the press release from the Houston Health Department, information from “testing, treatment or services will not be used against immigrants in their public charge evaluation.”
Symptoms of the coronavirus include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headaches, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, /or anddiarrhea according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),

It is recommended by the CDC to wash hands with soap frequently for at least 20 seconds and to physically distance when around others. Although it is currently mandated, the CDC also recommended to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth as well as covering coughs and sneezes to prevent any potential spread of the virus. Clean and disinfect surfaces daily, or when they get dirty and monitor your health for any symptoms, according to the CDC.
